What clothes and equipment to bring with

A warm jacket, warm fleece, down jacket, pairs of warm socks, a good quality walking boot, warm hat, sun-protective hat, sunglasses, sun-protective shawl, a pair of walking sticks, a head lamp or torch, personal water bottles, a water carry bag, a good quality sun protective cream, warm inners, trekking trousers. A warn feather minus 40-sleeping bags as nights on the base camps have an intense cold.
If you are mountain climbers, then you can also bring a pair of crampons and an ice axe.

When to trek and travel

  • Best time to do trekking in Ladakh is from the first week of June to mid-October.
  • In June, one can walk in a trek in Markha Valley, most part of Sham and lower Ladakh.
  • In July one can trek throughout Ladakh, except Tsomoriri-Spiti and Junglam.
  • In August and September, all minors and Major treks routes in Ladakh and Zanskar are open.
  • In October best to do the trek in Markha Valley, Lamayuru, and Stok.
  • Stok and Kangyatse expedition are open from mid-June till Mid September.
  • If you are adapted with cold weather, and then you can also do trekking over the frozen Zanskar river from Chilling to Lingshed and Nyerak.
  • Best time to do Chaddar Trek is in February.
  • If you are wildlife enthusiasts, then you can also do snow leopard watch and photography camps.
  • Best time for snow leopard watch camp is from mid- February to the first week of April.
  • Jeep safari tours in Ladakh are possible throughout the year, except when there is a change in the climate due to heavy snowfall and extremely cold weather.
  • Winter festival visitors should bring warmer clothes.
  • Consult your doctors and physicians before traveling to Ladakh.
